Title of the Talk/Lab :
Dr. Sachin Kumar is a senior scientist at CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), Lucknow. His research interest lies in Cell Biology and Immunology, focusing on the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)- and immune cell- function during stress like infection. He has investigated various key questions regarding HSC and neutrophil (a key phagocyte) function, migration and hematopoietic reconstitution by using loss-of-function and gain-of-function strategies under patho-physiological conditions. Flow cytometry has been an essential tool for his research focusing on rare cell populations including stem cells and heterogeneity of neutrophils. During his PhD training in Cellular and Molecular Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Madhu Dikshit, at CDRI (Lucknow), he extensively utilized multicolor flowcytometry to explore mechanisms of neutrophil immune function i.e. phagocytosis and proteases release/ ROS production.
His lab interests lie in exploring the various ROS species including nitric oxide (NO) signaling in neutrophils. NO induced NETs release through ROS augmentation in a myeloperoxidase -dependent manner from human neutrophils. This work has received high appreciation in this area of scientific research. In addition, he explores the mechanism of NO induced ROS generation in neutrophils by using specific probes.
