Title of the Talk/Lab :
Dr. Sunil Babu Gosipatala holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow, India. His academic journey commenced in 2001 at Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, before transitioning to BBAU in 2005. He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with a research focus on isolating immunomodulatory compounds from Avicennia officinalis. Dr. Sunil’s expertise lies in the intricate realms of immunology, cancer biology, and host-pathogen interactions – particularly at the microRNA (miRNA) level.
At the core of his research is an exploration into the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in neoplasia progression and the impact of viral miRNAs on human biological pathways. His groundbreaking work has illuminated how viral miRNAs contribute to carcinogenesis, subverting anti-viral defenses and facilitating viral persistence and latency within the host. Dr. Sunil’s dedication to advancing scientific knowledge is underscored by funding received from prestigious entities such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Science and Engineering Research Board (DST-SERB) of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (UP-CST)
Beyond his research prowess, Dr. Sunil is a distinguished organizer, having played pivotal roles in international and national conferences and workshops. Noteworthy among his organizational contributions is the facilitation of the 14th INDO-US Flow Cytometry Workshop in 2014 and a national-level workshop in 2020 at BBAU, centering on the application of flow cytometry in basic medical research. Furthermore, his editorial endeavors extend to authoring six book chapters and editing a book, reflecting his commitment to sharing knowledge.
Dr. Sunil’s academic leadership is evident not only in various publications comprising 36 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals—but also in his mentorship of six doctoral students. He serves as a revered reviewer for several international journals, including Tumor Biology, Molecular Biology Reports, and International Toxicology. Dr. Sunil’s global engagement is exemplified by his presentation of research findings at the 13th International Congress of Immunology held in Japan in 2010.
In the administrative sphere, Dr. Sunil has held significant roles at BBAU, serving as the Board of Management, Academic Council member, Board of Post Graduate Studies in Biotechnology (BBAU) Member Secretary for the Institutional Ethics Committee (Humans) and the Institutional Biosafety Committee from 2017 to 2023. His multifaceted contributions underscore a career marked by excellence in research, mentorship, and institutional leadership.
