Title of the Talk/Lab :

Dr. Pragyan Acharya serves as an Additional Professor of Biochemistry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. She earned her Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and pursued postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH, USA. During her postdoctoral tenure, she conducted groundbreaking research on the phenotypes and cell biology of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum.

In 2015, Dr. Acharya began her career as an independent investigator at AIIMS New Delhi, where her pioneering studies in malaria co-infection biology yielded novel insights. Her research focus has since evolved toward understanding the role of inflammation and identifying biomarkers in the pathogenesis of complex liver diseases, including complications of liver cirrhosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Her laboratory is also dedicated to discovering biomarkers for the early detection of organ dysfunction, aiming to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice.

Dr. Acharya’s exceptional contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious accolades, including the Ranbaxy Science Scholar Award, Khorana Nirenberg Award, NIH Award for Research Excellence, DBT-BioCare Award, and SERB Early Career Award. She has also received consecutive plenary session awards from the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) in 2021 and 2022 for the best original liver research from India. In 2023, she was honored as a Global Health Leader under the Women Lift Health Fellowships by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Driven by a commitment to translational research, Dr. Acharya’s work strives to advance the clinical management of liver diseases, improving patient outcomes through innovative approaches and impactful discoveries.
