Dr. Rajeev Kumar

Dr. Rajeev Kumar is a founding member of the Dr. S. Krishnamurthi Centre for Research & Education in Cancer (Research Division) at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC), where his work centers on the identification of predictive, prognostic, and early diagnostic biomarkers in solid tumors. His research focuses on cancer stem cells, EMT-associated genes, and the microbiome, utilizing integrated sequencing and multi-omics approaches. In addition, his team supports key institutional services including molecular diagnostics, leukemia immunophenotyping, tumor marker testing, and cancer genetics clinics.

He has led several institutional initiatives, notably achieving DSIR–SIRO recognition from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, and securing IRB registration with the CDSCO. He has authored multiple extramural research proposals and serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on DBT, ICMR, and BIRAC-funded projects. Recently, he received the Lady Tata Memorial Trust Research Grant to conduct a multi-omics study on esophageal cancer in collaboration with Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

His work actively promotes scientific collaboration with leading national and international institutions, including IIT Bombay, ILS Bhubaneswar, Tata Memorial Hospital, NCBS, Cancer Institute (WIA), Mizoram University, the University of Michigan, and the Karolinska Institute, as well as industry partner MedGenome, Bangalore. He also mentors PhD scholars and university trainees in advanced technologies such as NGS, microarray analysis, flow cytometry (FACS), and qPCR. In addition, he has served as Organizing Secretary for several national and international workshops and conferences and remain committed to mobilizing resources for supporting underprivileged cancer patients.

Beyond research, he is a co-founder the Major Ashish Kumar Roy Foundation to honor the legacy of Major Ashish (Indian Army). As a part of this initiative, an annual badminton championship is conducted in Silchar. The foundation has also established the Major Ashish Kumar Roy Telemedicine Cancer Care Centre in Begusarai, Bihar. He has also played a key role in major cancer awareness initiatives, including the Tata Trusts & NCG Run & Ride 2018 and the North East Alliance Against Cancer with Assam Rifles.
